About

This is version 3 of bluwulf.com. The prior Flash-based site was nice to look at but my traffic suffered from the poor searchability. Since then, WordPress has come a long way and so I’m experimenting with using that as a foundation for a gallery presentation.

These wallpapers are free for individual use. Please do not redistribute them as they represent a lot of work. I do this stuff for fun and to support the various models, but please don’t insult me or them by removing copyrights and logos and re-publishing these works elsewhere.

Images on this site are copyright by Bluwulf Design. Original photos are copyright by the models/photographers.

Technology

Bluwulf.com v3.0 uses WordPress 2.X as a foundation. The blogging system also makes a wonderful general purpose CMS because it is so flexible and lends itself to many applications. The image download/preview interface is a quick little Flash add-on. This allows for images to be shown and downloaded, but not leached because the actual path to them is not encoded anywhere on the page. While I’m glad folks appreciate my work, having things hot-linked and leached affects my server performance.

Style

Many designers who do wallpapers go in for a lot of effects and so forth to get the model’s image to blend into a theme. I go the other way. I think the model should be the focus and the rest of the design should build around a central image, or images. I try to get as close to a “magazine cover” look as possible – though sometimes I do experiment with textures, monochromatic, etc. I use a wide assortment of filters for color and tone correction, grain reduction, sharpening, and also photographic effects. The end result is, I hope, wallpapers which looked like they jumped out of a magazine cover.
