This design started from a nice enough looking portrait, but it was so much more dramatic when converted to black-and-white. Lots of very subtle tweaks in both the filtering and spot-adjustments.

For the 4th of July. Not much work was needed as this image was pretty solid to start with. Just smooth out the skin textures, adjust the color balance.
