Original was grainy with a yellow cast. Retouching smoothed out the skin tones and corrected the colro balance while at the same time increasing the level of detail.

Original was grainy and somewhat “flat.” Besides smoothing out the skin tones, the lighting was altered through retouching to bring some “glow” to the model – and a trippy background was designed to go with the bikini.

This was a grainy image again but in addition the scan was taken from a magazine and had very visible “folds” running across it in two places. The folds were digitally smoothed out and the skin tones were also evened and enhanced for the magazine cover look. Note that even though there was considerable removal of grain, the level of sharpness for the model’s outfit is actually higher in the “after” image.

This image is a little tougher to tell what was done because the original was quite good. Close inspection shows that skin surface was smoothed out and the sharpness was also improved at the same time.

This image and the one that follows are from the same project. The “before” shot looks almost salvageable: grainy, severe yellow cast, loss of detail through JPEG compression. The final result shows bright brown eyes, smooth sexy skin, and a well-lit image.

The photo here simply did not do the model justice – there was severe color correction needed both in the yellow and magenta spectrums to get something close to life-like skin tones. Once that was done, lighting correction was performed to yield a more radiant image, followed by hand-tune sharpening of hair, eyes, and other details.

This image was actually pretty quick to do. It’s just basic lighting, smoothing, and sharpening. But even the “basic” Bluwulf retouching provides significant improvements in image quality.

This image did not need much actual retouching, but the yellow cast was very pronounced which took away from the composition. So a lot of work with color balance, lighting and de-saturation was done to provide a more dramatic image.

Here the lighting in the photo pretty much washed out a lot of the definition in the model’s features. Correcting this required using half a dozen different lighting corrections – in addition to sharpening up the details of the face and improving overall color balance.
